3 Ideas to Get You Started

No one deserves to go through cancer alone, specially during the holiday season. If you have a friend or loved one who is currently battling cancer, show them how much you care this Christmas!  One of the best ways to show your support is by giving a gift. But what kind of gift should you give? Here are 3 ideas to get you started:

1. A gift of Time

2. A gift of Appreciation

3. A gift of Hope

It’s no secret cancer patients go through a lot. They endure treatments that can be grueling, often have to deal with immense emotional stress and experiance isolation at times. It’s no surprise, then, that cancer patients could really use some extra love and support this holiday season!  If you’re not sure what kind of support or gift to give a cancer patient in your life, don’t worry we’ve got you covered with three great ideas!

A gift of time.

Cancer patients often feel isolated and alone. One of the best gifts you can give them is your time. Spend time with them, listen to them, and let them know that you care.  Whether it’s going for a walk, doing crafts, watching a movie together, or just sitting and chatting, your time is sure to be appreciated.  This is one of the most precious gifts you can give.

A Gift of Appreciation.

Cancer patients go through a lot—from the physical and emotional challenges posed by the disease, to the financial burden of treatment. So it’s no surprise that one of the best gifts you can give a cancer patient is a gesture of appreciation.

There are many ways to show your appreciation. You could write a heartfelt letter expressing your admiration for their strength and courage. Or, if you’re crafty, you could make them a homemade card or gift. Other ideas could be a funny card, a carepackage or an item that has personal meaning.

No matter how you choose to show your appreciation, just know that it means the world to cancer patients to know that they are not alone in this fight—that there are people out there who care about them and are rooting for their recovery.

A Gift of Hope.

Cancer patients need hope. They need to know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and that they can beat this disease. One way to bring hope to a cancer patient is by giving them a special gift.

There are many gifts that can bring hope to a cancer patient. Journaling and developing a mindfulness practice can be a life saver while going through cancer.

Gift of distraction

It’s no secret that cancer can be a daunting and depressing diagnosis. The treatments, the side effects, and the constant worry can take their toll on patients and loved ones alike. Sometimes, the best thing you can do for someone battling cancer is to help them take their mind off of it – even if just for a little while.

There are plenty of ways to provide distraction from cancer. If the patient is up for it, consider taking them on an outing – even something as simple as coffee or a stroll can be a welcome break from the mundane hospital routine. If they’re not feeling well enough to leave their bed, bring the fun to them with games, movies, or books. You could even put together a care package with all of their favorite things to help make their hospital stay more bearable.
